TIFF this year was marked by first-time entries from such countries as Burundi, Latvia, Armenia, Croatia, and Luxembourg in both the International Competition and Young Cinema sections.
'OZU' Retrospective-90th Anniversary of His Birth was a featured program for this festival. Screenings of carefully restored pre-WWII silent films and lesserknown works of Ozu were presented. At the same time, the program commemorated the work of Chishu Ryu, a regular actor for many of Ozu's films, who died earlier in March.
