22nd Tokyo International Film FestivalOctober17-25,2009

The 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival will continue to hold up the theme of "Ecology" implemented in the year 2008, and established the GCC (Green Carpet Club), broadening the opportunities to think about the Earth‘s environment through the film media. Employing the slogan, "The film has a power to change the mankind. The mankind has the power to change the earth," TIFF became the Film Festival that brings the "Film and Earth and Mankind " together.

The Green Carpet was used at the TIFF Opening Event this year as well and in addition to the Opening Event, the Green Carpet was also used for the Closing Event as well as the Event Venues. The total length of 1,600m of Green Carpet was made with approximately 23,000, 500ml pet bottles.

For the topic of the screening section, Japanese Eyes section which has been introducing films in the broad perspectives since 2009 with the keyword, "diversity" marked the 6th anniversary this year. Japanese Eyes includes numerous Independent Films which conceals the rough-cut brilliance, which is one of the concepts for this section. From veteran directors to the rookies, music, romance and adolescence genres to Japanese sceneries, it covers the wide ranges of themes and profoundly boosted the spirits of the audience this year.

This year, Tokyo International Film Festival celebrates the 20th edition which is a year of the milestone. The various films were brought together through establishment such as newly created World Cinema section and the special project, Tokyo in Focus.
