21st Tokyo International Film FestivalOctober18-26,2008

The 21st Tokyo International Festival held a slogan, "Action for Earth" in order to transmit the theme of "Protecting the Earth=Ecology" and as the symbol of this theme, we unrolled the Green Carpet instead of the traditional Red Carpet on the opening day in the Roppongi Keyaki Dori.

The recycled PET bottles were used for the Green Carpet, and all the screening theaters were using "green" power as the electricity. Even more, the events such as Green Tie Gala Dinner and Earth Conference was held as well.


"Symbiosis between nature and mankind" is the theme for the newly established natural Tiff section. The broad range of the new film selections include powerful documentary titles and Omnibus short films which commemorated the 60th Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. The talk event by the sincere Directors have a strong appeal for the young audiences. For the Masterpieces selections, Dersu Uzala was screened in the new print and the rare opportunities were provided to see the film titles that difficult to appreciate on the silver screen.
